Andrew Wiggins to be Named NBA Rookie of the Year

Reports have Andrew Wiggins winning the award as expected; announcement will come tomorrow with a press conference.

Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

The Star-Tribune reports that Andrew Wiggins will be named the NBA Rookie of the Year tomorrow in a widely expected announcement.

The team sent out a press release announcing a press conference for tomorrow at 2:30 pm CDT for what they term a "major announcement" which will be about the award, a first for a Timberwolves player.

Wiggins led all rookies in minutes and points (among other things) while starting all 82 games during his rookie season. He finished the season averaging 16.9 points and 4.6 rebounds per game, and was the center point of the Wolves offense throughout the 2nd half of the season. He showed steady improvement in his ability to get to the basket and draw fouls, and also led all rookies in free throw attempts.

We'll have more on Wiggins and the Rookie of the Year Award tomorrow.
