Morning Pickup: He (Jahlil) Ain't Right for You

Dear Flip, He ain't right for you.

Cleveland won the Eastern Conference Finals last night, and LeBron holds the throne out East. King James continues to be the best player on the planet. Good for the Cavs. I can only imagine what it feels like to go from laughingstock to powerhouse in one year.

Congrats to David Griffin on taking advantage of Phil Jackson, netting J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert through a 3-team mid-season deal. Griffin also sent the Denver Nuggets two future first-round picks for Timofey Mozgov in an effort to add size after losing Anderson Varejao to a season-ending Achilles tear.

These were smart moves by Griffin. Moves paying huge dividends right now.

The Cavs swept the Hawks because of these trades. Of course, LeBron was simply amazing too. Watching the series, and the NBA playoffs altogether, has served as a friendly reminder: if you don't have a superstar in this league, good luck competing in the playoffs. I continue to believe Karl-Anthony Towns has superstar talent.

I can't help but consider the upcoming draft when watching playoff basketball. Drafting Jahlil Okafor first overall wouldn't be terrible by any means, maybe he'll become so dominant offensively that his shortcomings don't matter, but I continue to feel like there are two better players for the taking: Karl-Anthony Towns and D'Angelo Russell.

Towns isn't merely the best fit either. He's a tremendous prospect that does just about everything well on the court. When people talk about Towns they might not reference an insane low-post game that absolutely commands the double-team. But you also won't hear many flaws, as is the case with Okafor (defense, free throw shooting, and overall range on his jumper).

Through enough time, Wolves' fans know this feeling quite well, the draft teaches you that NOTHING is certain. Greg Oden serves as a fine example, as does Derrick Williams, Wes Johnson, and plenty of former Wolves' picks.

Still, I feel strongly that Jahlil isn't right for the Wolves. The Big KAT is.
