From Adam Zagoria (SNY.tv):
The Minnesota Timberwolves have informed Karl-Anthony Towns that they will select him with the No. 1 pick in Thursday's NBA Draft, a source close to Towns told SNY.tv.
"It's done, he's going to Minnesota," the source said. "[Minnesota President and coach] Flip Saunders was big on Jahlil Okafor for a minute there and after Karl came in [on Saturday], he decided to work out for them. He only worked out for them and it's a wrap. It's a wrap. They just told him they're going to take him No. 1."
Take this, of course, with the grain of salt due any draft week chatter. Nothing's done until it's done, so we simply won't know for sure until Thursday evening.
That said, Zagoria's reputable, and has a ton of access around the NBA. It's also a rep-killer to put out there if it's made up, since it'd be proven inarguably false in four days. I doubt Zagoria would just flat out say "it's happening, period" unless he was indeed told so.
Given Flip's history (particularly the type of bigs he prefers and his over-obsession with the workout process), repeated reports about the Wolves favoring Towns from Darren Wolfson, Jon Krzwczynski, and Dan Barrerio, and the recent string of events that includes the Wolves being the only team Towns has agreed to work out for, followed by both Flip and Glen parading around Hennepin with him on a Friday night, I'm confident that - even if an explicit promise wasn't made, per se - the Wolves will be drafting Karl Towns Thursday night.
