The USA basketball mini-camp gets underway with 30+ of the best American players in the league in attendance in Las Vegas. USA Basketball has to start sorting through the roster to figure out who is going to represent the U.S. in Rio next summer at the Olympics. I still think David Stern had a good idea when he suggested the Olympics become a U23 tournament like Olympic soccer, but that doesn't seem to be on the horizon.
Is Thompson really threatening to turn down $80M over five years to take the QO and leave the Cavs next summer? I'm all for getting paid, and obviously he has a lot of LeBron Leverage, but still. That's a lot of cheddar for a guy with his talents.
White guys with assault rifles calling themselves "oathkeepers" apparently now walking around Ferguson. This is utterly unsurprising. Meanwhile, this episode of This American Life is worth a listen: it's about the efficacy of school integration and discusses the recent accidental integration of a white suburb in St. Louis when a bunch of kids from Ferguson got sent there. The things the white parents say at the "town meeting" when the find out this is happening...oy.
I was somewhat disappointed with Spurs loss at Old Trafford, since they arguably deserved a result. Until I saw Arsenal lose 2-0 at home to West Ham. Ha ha.
