Sparks at Lynx: WNBA Finals Game Two

A must win for the Lynx after losing game one. Target Center should be loud again tonight.

The Lynx face a must win tonight in game two of the WNBA Finals after dropping game one on a buzzer-beater by Alana Beard. It was a real disappointment to drop the opener at home, especially given that they Lynx made some uncharacteristic mistakes that cost them. Notably, of their 16 turnovers, 13 of them were Sparks steals, and those turnovers resulted in 18 Sparks points. They need to adjust to the aggressive Sparks defense and figure out how to take advantage.

The Lynx have been here before, however. They dropped game one of last season’s Finals to the Indiana Fever as well, before winning the series in five games. The Lynx have shown they can win on the road, and specifically in L.A. where they won both games this season, but first must take care of business at home tonight.

Lynx fans will be looking for more bench production after a quiet game one for the reserves. They will also be looking for some stouter interior defense, as the Sparks got too many good looks in the paint. MVP Nneka Ogwumike scored 19 on 8-9 from the field, and backup big Jantel Lavender also contributed in the paint. The Sparks won without a big game from three-point land, shooting only 3-12, which is worrisome. The Lynx failed to make any of their four three-point attempts.

They are back at it this evening. The Lynx need a much more confident, assertive performance from the start tonight to even the series before it heads out to L.A.
