Hello, Canis Hoopus.
I'm back with another track of the week. Sorry about my inconsistency with these. Life gets in the way sometimes. But Rule #71 is: No excuses, blog like a champion!
I wanted to share this song by Solange off her new(ish) album A Seat At The Table, which she dropped on September 30, 2016. Man, time flies by and things change so quickly. Remember the hype and the hope surrounding the Wolves only two months ago?
But let's talk about this track real quick.
Don't Wish Me Well is about growth and moving forward in life. It's an honest track in which she is reveling in her progression as a person and an artist. I had this song on repeat for weeks after first listening to the album. I think it's beautifully crafted and shows this reflective, confident side of her.
I love when she says, "They say I changed, but a pity if I stayed the same." That should be in a movie after a couple gets in an argument or something. The next time someone tells me I've changed, this will be my response.
I hope you enjoy this track as much as I do, and hopefully our basketball team will show growth and move forward in a promising way over the next few months.
Lyrics
[Verse 1]
I went away
This concrete don't have love for me
I took a day
Too much talk and not much to see
I know you always speak on something
So I'll leave on the mic for you
[Chorus]
And I'm going all the way
But I'll leave on the lights for you
Oh woah, oh woah, oh woah, oh woah, oh woah
I'm going all the way
And now you're almost out of view
Oh woah, oh woah, oh woah, oh woah, oh woah
[Post-Chorus 1]
'Cause when I say what I mean, you ought to know
You've got to know
I don't let it go
'Cause when I say what I mean, you ought to know
You've got to know
I won't let it go
Away, away, away
[Verse 2]
Look what remains
Pour ashes where they claimed my name
They say I changed
But a pity if I stayed the same
Thinking that everything is funny
But don't say that the jokes on you
[Chorus]
And I'm going all the way
But I'll leave on the lights for you
Oh woah, oh woah, oh woah, oh woah, oh woah
I'm going all the way
And now you're almost out of view
Oh woah, oh woah, oh woah, oh woah, oh woah
[Post-Chorus 2]
'Cause when I say what I mean, you ought to know
You've got to know
I won't let it go
Away, away, away, away
