Wolves Miss Out on Pau Gasol, Still Have Loads of Cap Space

Not surprisingly, Pau Gasol is going to sign with the Spurs

As expected, things began happening again after Kevin Durant's announcement that he's going to join the Golden State Warriors.

The Warriors have agreed to trade Andrew Bogut (who they had to jettison to afford Durant's contract) to the Mavericks, who also appear ready to sign Harrison Barnes.  Meanwhile, the Warriors also renounced Festus Ezeli, who is now an unrestricted free agent who Portland is showing interest in.

Pau Gasol, a Wolves target over the last couple of days, has chosen San Antonio:

This is not a surprise. San Antonio has been seen as a likely destination for Gasol for a long time. It does come amid reports that Tim Duncan is leaning towards retirement.

The deal is reported as a 2 year deal worth more that $30M, with the 2nd year a player option. I'm sure it was not the highest offer, but San Antonio obviously has a lot going for it.

It leaves the Wolves with roughly $22M in cap space and dwindling options. They continue to badly need help on the wing, and arguably at power forward.
