Towns and Wiggins to be All-Stars?

ESPN posted an article on Monday highlighting the results of their ESPN Forecast panel voting for the players most likely to be selected as first time All-Stars in the 2016-2017 season. Karl Anthony Towns was voted as the #1 most likely, receiving 23 total votes. Andrew Wiggins was also on the list as the #8 most likely, receiving 9 votes. Other notable players on the list include Giannis Antetokounmpo (#2), DeAndre Jordan Jordan (#3), and Kristaps Porzinigis (#4).

The selection of KAT as the most likely candidate comes as no surprise to anyone, as he is pretty much unanimously renowned as one of the best young players in the League and is expected to reach superstar caliber sooner than later. Wiggins, on the other hand, is trickier to predict as an All-Star. He has the name recognition of a #1 overall pick and definitely puts up the scoring numbers that All-Star voters love to see, but he’s really going to need to make a significant leap to make an All-Star game as a wing in a conference shared with Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, Draymond Green, and even other first time All-Star hopefuls like Gordon Hayward. More than anything, Wiggins’ chances as making an All-Star team this season are likely going to depend on team performance. If he can continue to be a 20+ ppg scorer with the Wolves trending up as a legitimate playoff team, he has at least a slight chance.
