Timberwolves Waive Nikola Pekovic

The Wolves have officially parted ways with Montenegrin big man and fan favorite Nikola Pekovic.

The Wolves made it official today, parting ways with Nikola Pekovic more than a year after he last played in the NBA.

Waiving Pekovic with a year left on his contract presumably clears the way for his salary to come off the Wolves cap via a medical retirement, though that was not addressed in the team’s brief press release.

Pek was a huge fan favorite; a bull of a man with spectacular tattoos who, when healthy, was capable of overpowering even the strongest of opponents.

John will have more on the big Montenegrin and his too brief career with the Wolves tomorrow.

Meanwhile, this expected move will open up even more cap space for the Wolves, who, are looking at well over $30M in space depending on other moves.

We knew this was coming, but it’s disappointing that Pek’s career ends with a whimper rather than a roar.
