Timberwolves Summer League Roster

The Wolves Vegas odyssey starts in a few days. Here is your intrepid squad.

Unlike most years, the Wolves will head to the Las Vegas Summer League without a player who has a guaranteed contract (or any contract) for the upcoming season. Rookie Justin Patton of course would have been on the roster, but his injury will keep him home.

In some ways, this makes it more interesting. The staff won’t be focused on getting certain guys reps like they usually are and there should be more equal opportunity.

That said, I would not expect a repeat run to the Finals given the makeup of the roster.

Here it is:

3 V.J. Beachem F 6-8 201 01/15/95 Notre Dame/USA R

30 Deonte Burton F 6-5 250 01/31/94 Iowa State

44 Charles Cooke G 6-5 196 07/01/94 Dayton

25 Matt Costello F 6-9 245 08/05/93 Michigan State

34 Perry Ellis F 6-7 218 09/14/93 Kansas

11 Jack Gibbs G 6-0 195 01/29/95 Davidson

12 Amile Jefferson F 6-9 224 05/07/93 Duke

40 Moses Kingsley F 6-10 230 11/16/94 Arkansas

6 Marcus Paige G 6-1 175 09/11/93 North Carolina

10 Raphiael Putney F 6-10 185 04/21/90 Massachusetts

31 Levi Randolph G 6-5 205 10/03/92 Alabama

14 C.J. Williams F 6-5 230 02/06/90 North Carolina State

Ryan Saunders will again be at the helm of the Summer Wolves.

It’s rare that a player from the Summer League roster makes the actual roster in the fall unless they are already under contract. But given how thin the roster is, it’s actually possible this year, and it wouldn’t surprise me if a couple of these guys (or guys from other summer rosters) wind up at least with camp invites.

Guys I would keep my eye on include V.J. Beachem from Notre Dame—he’s a full sized wing who shot 39 percent from three in his college career. Doesn’t do much else and had a bit of a downturn as a senior when he was relied on more.

Marcus Paige, point guard from North Carolina. Not sure there’s a need for him on the Wolves roster, but he’s not without talent.

Deonte Burton just because he seems so unusual.

They open play on July 8th at 5:30 pm against the Summer Raptors.

Anyone you have your eye on?
