The wait is over (sort of): Wolves release two new uniforms

New uniforms!

The time has finally arrived. After months of jersey leaks, fan designs, and speculation, the Wolves have released the first two designs of their brand new uniforms. The two designs unveiled this morning are the “Association” and “Icon” jerseys.

Each NBA team will have four uniform sets to choose from during the regular season, with the home team picking which ones they want to game in and the opposition selecting a contrasting uniform.

A message from the new Alpha Wolf, Jimmy Butler:

Press release from the Wolves:

Minneapolis-St. Paul – The Minnesota Timberwolves today introduced a portion of their new uniform designs, which will be worn by the team beginning with the 2017-18 season. Visit to view the unveil video and to learn more about the design elements of the jerseys.

The two designs unveiled are the “Association” and “Icon” jerseys. As previously announced by Nike, the NBA is eliminating its Home and Road uniform designations, and instead, home teams will pick which of their uniforms will be worn at all home games, with visiting teams choosing a contrasting uniform from their own assortment. Two additional core uniform designs will be revealed in the coming months.

The uniform looks were created through a collaborative effort between the Timberwolves and Mississippi-based design expert Rodney Richardson of RARE Design.

Jerseys will be available for purchase beginning September 29 at the Timberwolves team store located in the Target Center skyway an at

The unveil also gives a first look at the Fitbit jersey patch. On June 20, the team announced a multi-year partnership with Fitbit to become the “Official Wearable” and “Official Sleep Tracker” of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Minnesota Lynx and Iowa Wolves in a partnership that extends to the court, arena, front-office and fans.

What are your thoughts? I think they look clean and crisp with two nice shades of blue. A simple look. The stripe is a little bit weird to me though. My cousin Sam says they are definitely championship caliber uniforms and since he spends way too much time theorizing about the importance of appealing jerseys, I will have to trust his assesment here. There’s nothing over the top with these two new uniforms, which is good with me. I have also been on #TeamMeh throughout this entire jersey process, figuring they would be fine either way. I’m not deeply in love with them yet but these feel like good uniforms, all things considered. Obviously some people will say they are trash. That’s the way it is.

The fitbit ad is not intrusive and fits (no pun) really well with the jerseys. The Cavaliers Goodyear Tires ad patch is the only one I’d rate above the Wolves in terms of ad patches that have we have seen thus far in the jersey releasing process. Another thing to consider: these are much better than basically all of the uniforms in the history of the organization, minus the originals (imo).
