A year later and here we are, back again. A year ago, the Lynx and Sparks played a thrilling five game series that came down to the final seconds, with Nneka Ogwumike’s put back making the difference in the Sparks win.

These have been the two best teams in the league for the past two seasons, and now, after each swept their semifinal series, they return for a rematch. The Lynx are finalists for the sixth time in seven seasons, and will be seeking their fourth championship in that span. It’s been an amazing run built around the core group of Lindsay Whalen, Seimone Augustus, Maya Moore, and Rebekkah Brunson, and the coaching of Cheryl Reeve. The addition of MVP Sylvia Fowles has made them even more formidable.

The Sparks have two former MVPs of their own in Candace Parker and Ogwumike, along with defensive player of the year Alana Beard.

Neil wrote a terrific preview highlighting some of the key match-ups in this heavyweight battle. And it really should be a battle. These are two experienced and talented teams who bring championship pedigree to the table.
