With the 20th pick in the 2018 NBA draft, the Timberwolves have selected Georgia Tech shooting guard, Josh Okogie.
My initial reaction to the pick is...I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SELECTION.
A lot of smart people had plenty of great things to say about Okogie during the pre-draft process. He’s a wing with a huge wingspan (7’0″) and shot 38.2% from deep and 77.7% from the line in two college seasons. Okogie also averaged 1.8 steals and 1.0 blocks in 36.4 minutes per game. That checks a lot of boxes. Adding a 3-&-D wing prospect like him absolutely had to happen.
Entering the night, the greatest need in Minnesota was adding wing depth behind Jimmy Butler and Andrew Wiggins. This pick fills that need.
The question now becomes how much will Thibs even play an inexperienced rookie. Those answers will come soon enough, but for now this seems like a really good pick for Thibodeau and Layden. For the time being, Okogie is the newest Wolf and I like the pick. The team still has pick 48 to work with later in the draft.
What are your thoughts on the selection? Getting a shooter/defender like him seems like a large positive. We will have more on the drafting of Okogie moving forward.
