Timberwolves Waive Cole Aldrich

As expected, the big man is waived to save money

The Wolves have waived Cole Aldrich to save nearly $5 million in salary. Only a little over $2 million of his 2018-19 contract was guaranteed, and the Wolves had until today to waive him so as not to guarantee his entire $7M for next season.

Aldrich appeared to be a strong signing for the Wolves in the summer of 2016, coming off a good season as a back up for the Clippers. But he was never given significant minutes by Tom Thibodeau, and last season he appeared for a total of 49 minutes.

This was expected, and leaves the Wolves with about $11M below the expected tax line with nine contracts.
