The Minnesota Timberwolves are celebrating their 30th season in franchise history in style.
The team announced Thursday that the black uniforms worn from 1996-2008 will be brought back for five home games during the 2018-19 season.
Minnesota’s uniforms during the era made most famous by Kevin Garnett’s stint with the Timberwolves became fan favorites through the years, thanks in large part to the green tree lining.

These uniforms represent the most successful era in the history of the franchise, including Minnesota’s Western Conference Finals appearance in the 2003-04 season.
The electric and nostalgic design saw some of its features remain in the Wolves’ uniforms from 2009-2016, but nearly all of those features were wiped with the latest uniform update before the 2017-18 season.
An analogy to explain how meaningful the return of these uniforms is — these uniforms are the best thing since sliced bread. We ought to celebrate this like sliced bread was taken away from us for a decade and is now returning. And frankly, I’m not sure if that does enough justice.
The first appearance of the new uniforms in 2018-19 will take place on Halloween, October 31, vs. Utah. The following four appearances are slated for December 3 vs. Houston, January 4 vs. Orlando, March 5 vs. Oklahoma City and April 9 vs. Toronto.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m about to go to the Timberwolves official website to go check the online store for the jerseys and find tickets for those five games.
