What the hell was that? I hope none of you watched that entire game, and I’m sorry for you if you did. Let’s keep it short and sweet tonight.
That was, undoubtedly, the worst game I have seen the Wolves play. There was no life whatsoever. I wouldn’t even call it terrible defense because that would imply that there was any being played. Maybe Ryan Saunders just needs more time, but the dribble hand-off and pick-and-roll defense has been atrocious during his brief tenure. They gave up corner three after corner three after corner three.
The guards (primarily Jeff Teague) got caught on every screen/hand-off. JJ Redick got easy looks all night long. There seemed to be no communication whatsoever between bigs and guards on those actions. Joel Embiid dominated. Jimmy Butler is still a really good basketball player. Ben Simmons is a nightmare matchup, especially in transition. Wilson Chandler drilled four corner threes.
It was all clicking tonight for Philly, and a lot of that had to do with how easy the Wolves made everything for them. Five different Sixers made at least 3 threes, and they shot roughly 10000% from the field on their way to nearly 150 points in a regulation NBA game.
Offensively, the Wolves were out of control for most of the game. It doesn’t do them any good to “play faster” if they’re going to be out of control while doing it. Tyus got hurt, too. It’s safe to say it was not a good night. Rant below.
