Today at 12:30 pm is media day for the Wolves, marking the official kick-off of training camp and, finally, the beginning of the end of the off-season.
Media day is a time for optimism and excitement, with players in the best shape of their lives, excitement about the new direction, and eagerness to get going. Nothing has gone wrong yet, so all things are possible.
I expect nothing different today, especially in the wake of a summer in which the Wolves have hammered home the idea of changing the culture, away from the dourness of the Tom Thibodeau era into a new era under Gersson Rosas and Ryan Saunders. Their goal is to create a more open atmosphere emphasizing connectedness among everybody in the organization and, well, more fun.
That’s all well and good, but we’ll see how much it actually helps, and whether it can withstand what is unlikely to be a particularly successful season on the court.
Media day isn’t really a day for news, but John will be there for us to get the key quotes and anything else that emerges.
Meanwhile, the Wolves announced their training camp roster:

On the assumption that Jordan Murphy and Lindell Wigginton are just in camp to make up the numbers and try out for Iowa, it appears the battle for the last roster spots will come down to Tyrone Wallace, Treveon Graham, and maybe Keita Bates-Diop. One player on the list other than Muphy and Wigginton (and the two-way players) will have to be cut in order to get down to 15.
Tomorrow the team heads to Mankato to get to work on preparations for the season. Their first pre-season game is a week from tomorrow. But today is a day to celebrate the new season and the players who will make up our 2019-20 Timberwolves.
