Last week, Zaila Avant-garde (Last name changed by her father) became the first African-American winner of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. However, that amazing accomplishment wasn’t a surprise to those who knew the 14-year-old before her seemingly overnight fame. Of her many wide array of talents, being an absolute stud of a basketball player is one of them.

Why am I telling you this?
Because according to this ESPN article on Zaila, it is apparently her destiny to become a Minnesota Lynx. If you don’t believe me, take her word for it:
Zaila thinks she’d be interested in playing basketball professionally overseas, but pictures the Minnesota Lynx when she visualizes being drafted to the WNBA.
I’m just trying to figure out where I can pre-order my Avant-garde Lynx jersey.

ESPN 30 for 30: “Breakaway”
As we recognize our future basketball overlord, let us not forget those who laid the path for us. I’m talking about my basketball GOAT, Maya Moore. This last Tuesday, ESPN unveiled their newest 30 for 30 documentary, “Breakaway.” My partner and I shared a handful of sad and happy tears as we watched this moving film which details the story of Maya Moore and her journey to free the wrongly imprisoned Jonathon Irons. If you have ESPN+, you should be able to stream this. 10/10 recommend!
