Happy Holidays, Lynx fans!
In honor of the season of giving, what better way than to give to you a new edition of the Lynx Offseason Update?
As the WNBA offseason continues, the Lynx have a total of eight players who are playing overseas, not counting Napheesa Collier, who played in Turkey earlier this offseason, and Diamond MIller, who returned home after playing in Hungary at the start of the offseason. Minnesota’s Kayla McBride, Nina Milić, Tiffany Mitchell, Lindsay Allen, Jessica Shepard, Dorka Juhász, Diamond Miller, Maia Hirsch and Bridget Carleton are playing overseas in Turkey, Italy, Hungary, France and Rwanda this offseason.
In last week’s update, Carleton exploded offensively, McBride and Allen impressed in Turkey, and more.
As a new week gets underway, here’s a look back at how the Lynx players have performed over the last week across the globe in our latest Lynx Offseason Update.
Shepard has been a double-double machine for Umana Reyer Venezia this offseason and she continued that level of play over the past week with a pair of contests.
In a 72-51 win over Fribourg in the EuroCup playoffs on Dec. 21, Shepard posted a double-double of 18 points, 14 rebounds, two assists and two steals over just 24 minutes. In a 73-62 victory over Roma in Italy-Serie A1 action on Dec. 23, she posted a near double-double of 21 points, eight rebounds and one steal over 32 minutes.
Umana Reyer Venezia returns to action this week with an Italy-Serie A1 contest against San Martino on Dec. 30 before resuming the EuroCup playoffs on Jan. 11 against Gdynia.
After joining Rwanda Energy Group (REG) on a short-term deal to play in the 2023 FIBA Africa Women’s Basketball League earlier this month, Mitchell concluded play in Egypt over the past week.
On Dec. 18, REG fell to KPA 101-97 in the semifinals, going on to again fall on Dec. 19 against Inter-Clube on Dec. 19.
Over seven games in FIBA African Women’s Basketball League action, Mitchell averaged 23.7 points, 8.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.0 steals over 35.6 minutes per contest.
Though her time with REG is now over, Mitchell will join Athletes Unlimited when that season begins in the new year.
Carleton put together one of her best weeks of the offseason last week with UNI Györ and she followed that up with a well-rounded performance in one contest over this past week.
In a 75-71 loss to USK Praha in EuroLeague action on Dec. 20, Carleton posted a team-high-tying 16 points along with seven rebounds, three steals, two assists and one block in 38 minutes.
Carleton and UNI Györ will have the week off this week before returning to action Jan. 6 against Vasas Akademia in Hungary-A Division action.
Kayla McBride and Nina Milić
The Lynx duo of McBride and Milić both continue to play well for global powerhouse Fenerbahçe this offseason, taking part in two games over the past week which included two more victories.
To begin the week, Fenerbahçe beat Zaragoza 71-65 on Dec. 20, with McBride finishing with a team-high 23 points, seven rebounds, four assists and one steal over 37 minutes in that contest. In a 76-54 win over Mersin on Dec. 23, McBride had a near double-double of 16 points, nine rebounds and two assists over 35 minutes.
Milić once didn’t appear in either of the two games over the week.
Fenerbahçe has two Turkey-KBSL games coming up on the schedule this week, a battle against Galatasaray on Dec. 27 and a game against Emlak on Dec. 30.
Allen has been consistent with Botas SK this offseason, and well-rounded play continued over the past week with one game on the schedule.

Villeneuve d’Ascq, France
Hirsch continues to play in France for Villeneuve d’Ascq this offseason as we wait to see if she will ultimately join the WNBA in 2024.
Over the past week, Villeneuve d’Ascq took the court in one game, a 70-54 win over Marsin in EuroLeague action on Dec. 20. Hirsch, however, didn’t appear in that contest. So far this offseason, Hirsch has averaged 7.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 0.8 steals over nine France-LFB games, averaging 5.0 points, 2.3 rebounds and 0.9 assists over eight EuroLeague contests.
Villeneuve will have the week off this week before returning to the court in the new year on Jan. 7 against Tarbes in France-LFB action.
Juhász has played well with Famila Schio this offseason, seeing her play improve as the games continue in Italy. Despite two games on the schedule for Famila Schio this week, Juhász didn’t play in either of those contests.
Famila Schio opened the week by falling to Miskolc 73-69 on Dec. 20, later topping Malino 84-58 on Dec. 23.
Juhász and Famila Schio will have one game on the schedule this week to round out play in the 2023 calendar year, a battle against Virtus Bologna in Italy-Serie A1 play on Dec. 27.
